Everything around Mamma Moo and Crow started with a song. Or more correctly, a game. When our children were young, we made all the songs now called ‘the Mamma Moo songs’ together with them.

Young children often sing when they play. Long humming playing with Lego pieces or short bang bang balance cries on the little plank. Earlier, we had made everyday songs, the kind that come about from things that happened in our world – the big birch tree got blown over or we forgot our flip-flops when we went swimming and what happened when we went to get them? Many similar events that got turned into songs got published in several songbooks.

Our own children naturally outgrew us and a friendly neighbour suggested that we could record his little daughter who sang all the time. Eventually we had 100 hours on tape of humming and chanting and marvellous speculations from several children. We worked through it and made recordings. A childish treasure-trove on five CDs that now live on in streamed format.

The songs later became the starting point for the stories that first came out on radio, then as books and movies. Almost every story contains part of the song that it came from.
